hi -
i have a tape that seems to have a constant physical defect on the surface - I think it could be the oxide shedding or a chemical process happening in the tape - I haven't put it anywhere near my playback machine yet!
It seems to be a fluid deposit - but I'm sure the tape hasn't got damp - there is no mould anywhere..
thanks in advance..

The damage seems to be from moisture condensation. I have had this happen to several tape to the point of the tape sticking so badly it couldn't be played.
There is nothing that can be done, except to carefully clean the tape and keep it dry.
I have not successfully recovered such a damaged tape. -
Oxide shedding and/or bacterial/fungal growth.
PM me, and I'll gladly refer you to a reliable service that bakes and restores tapes in this condition. They special in aged, flood-damaged and mud-damaged tape media.
This tape is not lost.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
