I'm not sure this is right topic -- but I have this DVD Recorder -- seems to work for +RW 4x DVD media but +R 16x media records for about 30 seconds then writes to the dvd so I get a few very small segments until it hangs up.

I've used it for writing to both +R and -R media in the past (maybe a year ago). Only thing that I can figure is that with the faster media now available, I need some sort of firmware upgrade for it. However, I can't find one.

In the DVD Recorder section, someone said this Best Buy store brand is a rebadged LG RC-6800. But I can't find a firmware upgrade for this either.

It exhibits the same symptoms regardless of source of video (VHS, DVR, Cable). It also is the same regardless of brand of media. It appears to play movies fine.

And just so no one thinks it's user error -- I have bought another Sansung combo unit and I have no problem recording the same video with this unit.

Any Ideas!!! Thanks for the help.

You might want to try 8x DVD+R media discs.

I suggest the Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD+R media discs. You can buy them on-line at RIMA.COM at a reasonable price. For instance a 100 pack is only $33.99 + shipping.

Many people feel that the Taiyo Yuden DVD+R discs are the best DVD+R discs that money can buy. Personally I prefer the 8x DVD-R discs but some DVD recorders work better with +R than -R so if your recorder says to use +R then by all means use +R instead of -R although if your DVD recorder works with -R you will find that the 100 pack of Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R is only $26.99 + shipping which is $7.00 cheaper than the Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD+R discs.

    P.S.
You aren't going to find DVD+R nor DVD-R discs that are rated less than 8x as that is just the way it is these days. Having said that the 8x discs tend to work better than the 16x discs in many stand alone DVD recorders. So chances are the 8x discs will work for you unless you have some sort of hardware problem i.e., many stand alone DVD recorders seem to wear out the internal DVD player/burner faster than we would like. It could be a hardware failure ...
