you can fit up to 6 if you leave them as xvid and burn them as a data disc. xvid standalone players are cheap if you don't have one. otherwise 1 if you convert back to dvd spec(a waste of time and quality in my opinion). but i mean really a dvd blank is what 25 cents?

  3. as aedipuss says

Yo would be best spending £25 on a DivX DVD Player...most superstores and sites sell them.... eBuyer currently have one for £23...

These playback DivX/Xvid/AVI/MPG/MPEG files aswell as normal DVD/JPEG/MP3 playback

This way you can burn data disc , add files then burn...
only thing is will only work on DivX players / PC ...

I know what you WANT to do but to squeeze 6 XviDs on as 1 normal DVD the quality will absolutely abismal... i have seen one like that had 4 on and each one was just less than 1 hour and quality wasnt too bad but not very good...

if your SIX movies are over 1 hour long i would entertain it....

DivX Player is way to go...

OR burn 1/2 movies to DVD

    software to use....

AVI2ISO will encode just about anything you throw at it....
    or CovertXtoDVD

I think he means he doesnt want to convert each "1" XviD to a "1" DVD (which is norm for playback on DVD player)
and HOW MANY XVIDS could he get on 1 DVD STRUCTURE, i.e adding Xvids as seperate movies playable on normal DVD players

At VCD resolution and quality, you can squeeze in 6-7 hours of video on a DVD-5. If that's what you want, just encode to VCD specs with TMPGEnc, then author with TDA.

Depending on the original source I get about 4 hours on a DVD-5 and it's very watchable on my portable TV - but on the widescreen TV the quality is definitely lacking - although it's still watchable.

Software: I use Nero Recode or Sony DVD Architect followed by DVDShrink depending on how quick I want the results and how important the finished DVD will be.

I don't encode if I don't have to. I just put 5 1 hour & a half films (XVID format) on a dvd and they look as good as the orginals. Also, I've noticed that the picture on my new Philips DVP5982 looks better than my DVP 642.

  9. There is no limit, you are allowed to throw away as much quality as you wish.

It's like asking how many people can fit into your car, it's all a matter of how much discomfort you are willing to bear.

DVD blanks are cheap, just use several.

Can divx dvd players play files like mkv and ogm? And if they can if the file has soft subs and dual audio, would all those features still work as well? And there is no quality loss?

  12. DivX DVD Players only play DivX files or DivX/XviD encoded AVI's and MPG's/MPEG's

Perhaps. My previous player did not play/see .mpg files, but played/recognized them if I renamed them to .VOB
