I see all kinds of great hacks on this site to make DVD players region free, which is awesome, but I really don't have a use for it. But here's what really annoys me: With most DVD movies out there I can skip over individual previews, but cannot fast forward, rewind or go directly to the main menu during them, which annoys me to no end. It is getting to the point where I will refuse to put a DVD in the damned thing until I have made an illegal copy with those disabling "features" removed from the disk.

So, here's my question: Is there any way to hack any DVD recorder out there to remove this "feature" (or, better yet, any DVD recorder which does not have this "feature")? I don't care what I have to buy, how ugly it is when I get done with it or if the lights dim when I push play because I have modified the hell out of it. I just want the buttons that I paid for on the remote that I paid for to work the DVD recorder that I paid for to play the movie that I paid for the way I want it to play. I believe that I am smart enough to decide when I should or should not fast forward or jump straight to the main menu. I do not need a DVD telling me how I may and how I may not use the features of my own electronics.

By the way, the model number of my current DVD recorder is irrelevant. I will buy a new one if it means having control over my own device. Thanks for reading my rant and any help you can give.
