I wasted about 2 weeks using TMPGEnc to convert 4GB mpeg2 (from TV card) files into 1GB files. No matter what the settings I used, VBR, CBR, mpeg1, mpeg2, etc, after making the DVD with Gui For DVD Author, all 5 different media players on my computer would lock up when I try to advance into the movie or use the "next" button on any of the media players. However, then I used TMPGEnc 4 XPress to convert the files (with similar settings, 2 pass VBR 1200kbps 352x288 48K audio, then use Gui For DVD Author), I got a perfect DVD every time. Can someone tell me why TMPGEnc failed every time, but TMPGEnc 4 XPress worked perfectly? Also, I asked many times which would give a clearer picture, mpeg1 or mpeg2 (with same file size and same parameters) and couldn't get a clear answer, so I just experimented and made both mpeg1 and mpeg2, and I have to say, in my opinion, mpeg2 gave a noticeably clearer picture. And the mpeg2 files, (using TMPGEnc 4 XPress and de-multiplex video/audio and Gui For DVD Author) made DVDs that also worked perfectly on my computer and also in my DVD player. This info might save someone else a lot of trouble if they want to fit almost 8 hours of video on a DVD that will play on any DVD player.
