  1. I have the GSpot file analysis tool.

I have a file marked AVI that won't play.

The GSpot says it is an MPEG file.

VLC player reads all this stuff but will not play this.

Is the file tagged as the wrong file type? How do I fix it?

Post the g-spot screenshot, as there may be other useful information on it.

It is possible to put mpeg video inside an avi container, however if VLC won't play the file, chances are there are other factors at play.

  3. My free screen shot maker ran out. What did you need to know?

I have some scant experience using virtual dub. All I want to do is view thew content-- and listen to it of course.

This content was ina bundle of things some of which play fine and are marked properly as avi's in Gspot.

The mpeg ones are whacked. On other forum advice I added in the CCCP codecs which didn't accomplish anything.

The files show the right size whether they run or not. VLC just won't ply the mpeg ones.

  4. Just rename the file from .AVI to .MPG.

Maybe not, but worth a try! Most media players will be able to play a video file with the wrong extension.
