    Hi All.

I used to be able to play DVDs fine on my computer's DVD-ROM player but am not able to do so anymore.

I haven't played a DVD in a long while so I wouldn't be able to remember what's changed on my pc since the last time it worked.

In GOM Player, I get the message 'Part of this file is not supportable for streaming. Confirm that appropriate codec is installed to play this media file. Error code: 0x00000055'.

In Windows Media Player, it indicates that there is not disc in the drive and if I click on a particular file from the DVD, I get the message 'Windows Media Player cannot find the specified file. Be sure the path is typed correctly. If it is, the file does not exist at the specified location, or the computer where the file is stored is offline.'

In Media Player Classic, I get the sound fine, but can hardly see the video. It has weird horizontal thick blurs all down the screen.

(Yes, the same thing is happening with another DVD I've tried.)

    Please help.

    Thanks.

    Hi All.

I uninstalled my XP Codec pack and installed the latest version, which stopped halfway because of some error (and won't let me uninstall because it needs whatever it is that it didn't manage to install) but even this half baked install fixed the problem! Now I have to figure out how I can uninstall this and then get a proper install!

Does anyone know how I can uninstall this or remove it manually? It won't let me do it through Add/Remove either. It just keeps stalling at a certain point when trying to uninstall/re-install it.

    The details state (when uninstalling):

    Unregistering: GPlMpgDec.ax
    Delete file: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\GPlMpgDec.ax
    Copy failed
    C:\Program Files\XP Codec Pack\filters\GPlMpgDec.ax
    Could not load: GPlMpgDec.ax
    Unregistering: ffdshow.ax

    The details state (when installing):
    Unregistering: ffdshow.ax

My question is, how can something be uninstalled if it requires a file it should have installed but failed to install during the installation process?

    Thanks.

Just an FYI, it is best to not install "codec packs". The best solution is to check the file(s) that won't play, and only install the codec that is needed. In the case of DVD's, they require a mpeg2 codec.

From the errors you listed above, you can try searching for and deleting all references to the above files from the registry. The fact that the install failed, will likely mean that the uninstall won't work either. You can continue trying to get the install to work correctly, or just live with it.
