Hi .. why with a laptop that is light years faster spec wise than my older desktop, take so much LONGER to copy/burn a DVD movie .. for example .. desktop copies/burns, complete DVD of The Kingdom in ~ 45 minutes, whereas my laptop with faster processor, more RAM, higher speed DVD burner .. same movie, same process .. copy/burn DVD takes about 3 to 4 HOURS .. I'm having problems with my DVD burner on the desktop, have been copying successfully but getting lots of COASTERS when burn process starts .. gets to about 80% completion, and burn process fails .. have cleaned the DVD lens thing .. still same issue .. so I'm back to the laptop for copying/burning etc .. IT TAKES FOREVER, BUT NO COASTERS SO FAR ..![]()
Please advise .. Thanks ..

laptops generally have a single much slower hard drive - 5400rpm vs 7200rpm in a desktop. it's a heat and power saving thing. a new dvd burner for the desktop can be had for $30. sounds like it may be time.

Make sure all your drives (HD and DVD, desktop and laptop) are running in DMA mode, not PIO.
-
From Control Panel -> System -> Hardware tab -> Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers -> Primary IDE Channel -> Advanced Settings tab
Transfer Mode should be "DMA if Available"
Current Transfer Mode should be something with DMA, not PIO.
Do the same for Secondary IDE channel and any others. -
Yeah, I recently asked the same question of the DVDRebuilder forum. My dual core AMD laptop takes almost twice as long and my P4 3.0 desktop computer. What kind of media are you using, I recommend TY or Verbs only. By the way, I'm using Anydvd so I don't think it's your software.
