    using ConvertXToDVD

    I noticed that when I convert avi videos to DVD video_ts - the resulting video output is normal

    when I convert xvid, rvmb videos, my output video will have two black bars top and bottom of the screen when viewed on TV and full-stretch fit on the pc media players.

    why is that so? thanks.

  2. Because the material you're converting is widescreen and you're converting to 4:3? Or the material is wider than 16:9 and you are converting to 16:9 DVD?

    I don't know much about the aspect ratios but the avi, xvid, rvmb videos all look 4:3 to me but after conversion the xvid, rvmb videos will have 2 permanent black bars top and bottom of the screen.

    You can check using Gspot. Also, if the material is actually 4:3, and the finished product has black bars top/bottom, it will look squished (ie: short and fat looking people objects) when played back on a 4:3 source (TV or monitor).

    Is your monitor and/or TV 4:3 or 16:9?

    I checked several of my videos. all the avi, xvid, rvmb videos aspect are - 640x480 (1.33:1) [=4:3]

    the avi videos after conversion are "normal looking"

    the xvid, rvmb videos after conversion have the 2 black bars top and bottom and the "short and fat looking people objects" effects.

    so what is the "normal" video aspect ratio for conversion to "normal" viewing.

  6. It sounds like ConvertXToDVD misidentified the source as 16:9. You can probably overide it and specify 4:3 instead.

    Note that the storage aspect ratio (SAR, 640x480) is not necessarily the same as the Display Aspect Ratio (DAR, the shape the picture is supposed to be displayed at). Although in AVI and RMVB files SAR and DAR are usually the same.
