  1. Hi all,

I was looking for inkjet printable DVDs, and found 2 options that I believe both use MCC 03RG20 media. In my case it's: Verbatim and the much cheaper Laser.
I was wondering what could be the difference in such a case (particular and general cases). All I could learn from this forum is that the country/plant of manufacturing could be different, but that is true even for the same brand.
Could one brand get priority for the better batches? Is the white printing surface identical or is it different and added later? Could Verbatim be adding anything? Is there any other reason buying the more expensive media?

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

It is believed by many that fake MCC media exists, media which is not identical to "genuine" MCC media, and will perform differently.

One of the reasons for checking the country of origin is to identify if the media is indeed "genuine". For instance made in china Playo media with an MCC mediaID is believe to be "fake". Laser has relabled many brands and their MCC media is made in HongKong so I believe it would be identified as "fake".

I am unable to give a considered opinion on the merits of "fake" vs "genuine" media because I do not have problems with any but the lowest quality media,

But remember MCC and Verbatim are the same company - therefore both the Brand and the mediaID would have to be fakes. Laser is not the same company as MCC.

Stick to the Verbatim brand and you won't have to worry about it.

Do not buy the Laser brand. I did the mistake of buying them and my previous CMC MAG AM3 burned at quality 95 when this new MCC 03RG20 burned at quality 73 and it's absolutely horrible. I feel so ripped off.

    Hope this helps.

  6. Thanks for the data.

Me, I already bought the Verbatim. Looks like I made the right choice.
I just wish they sold here the glossy ones too.
