Hi,
I have a Philips DVP5980 with a USB (1.1) port. I tried 2 HDD (2.5") hooked to the USB port but none worked:
1/ Seagate 120GB : one partition NTFS so i can't say it doesn't work since i didn't tried it with FAT32 (i don't want to reformat it since i have all my photos on it!). But the HDD LED went ON and Philips player said quickly "device not recognized" which is normal
2/ WD PassportII 250GB: 60 MB FAT32 and the rest NTFS. The HDD's LED flashes but no answer from the player. I wonder if it's because it doesn't like 2 partitions or because of large size or because of lack of enough current/energie. Again i can't reformat to test: my NTFS partition is full of photos
I didn't tried an external power for my HDD because i haven't one and i'm not interested anyway (if no HDD works then i'll go for USB flash drives).
I'd be very interested if people doing playback from external USB HDD in a standalone can give their equipments and specially their HDD's characteristics. It's really short:
HDD brand and size
how many partitions
standalone player brand (including a USB port)
thank you very much
nalooti
