I just copied my first VHS movie tape onto a DVD using a Magnavox MWR10D6 standalone DVD recorder. It worked OK although the quality isn't very good.

The disc it produced is in a format called "DVD+VR". I would like to convert it to "DVD Video" format, with which I'm much more familiar. However my initial searches only found commercial software, and were several years old so maybe out of date. Also the technical discussions were generally over my head. Is there some easy & free way to do this conversion?

Doesn't DVD+VR also create a DVD-Video folder with standard dvd-video files? Or is it DVD-VR?

DVD+VR format has two folders: VIDEO_TS and VIDEO_RM
I already answered my own question...
The first thing I tried, RipIt4Me, said DVD Shrink should work, and it does...
It's exactly like ripping an ordinary DVD Video, except after the preliminary analysis, it showed two identical titles of the movie. (Occasionally regular DVD Video movies do that too.) I needed only to reauthor and select either one of them to rip to the hard drive, which produced the standard DVD Video format with AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders. I haven't burnt it yet, but it played OK with Power DVD, so I'm confident.
So it's easy and free, after all.

DVD+VR is a subset of DVD-Video. It's pretty much the same thing.
