  1. I just got a note from Panasonic telling me they will have a mpeg 2 encoder in Janaury 2002.

  2. I hope it will also have an MPEG1 encoder to replace their old one, it used to be the best encoder out there, and still is in quality In my opinion!

Sorry Sefy, all I got was an email. They did say their web site will be updated in January.

I dont understand why people like the panasonic Mpeg-1 encoder so much. I find the quality of its encoder good(not great, not even very good), and not in the same league as the Tmpgenc encoder. The Tmpgenc in my view is the best!!
If I rated Tmpgenc as a 10 scale 1....10, panasonic would come in a close 6!

  7. Any idea whether or not there will be a plug-in version for Premiere as it has for mpeg-1?

The note did not get into any specifics other than the introduction of the mpeg 2 encoder.

  9. The Panasonic encoder is great if you don't like any blocks, it produces great MPEGs, but TMPGenc is better, although it creates more blockiness.

I would love to see a MPEG2 encoder from Panasonic, I look forward to it.

The only reason I can see that TMPG would be better than Pana is speed. Quality of Pana is much better, but it's way too slow! I hope they optimize performance as if their MPEG2 encoder is as good as their MPEG1 and FAST, it will be my main encoder!

TMPGEnc produces a crisper and overall better looking picture than panasonic. Altough the blocks are definetaly less on panasonic, it also drains the colour, and softens the image. When i maxed out the RBG filters on panasonic, i still had colour loss from the original
