Hello guys! My family & I are currently in shopping for a HDTV with a Combo player(DVD/VCR/Monitor). I know this section of the forums deals with the "standalone" DVD players. I'm wanting to know a place(website) where I can go to get info on compatability with these type players like is provided here at VideoHelp.com. We have tons of VCD'S & SVCD's that we need a combo player that plays these type formats.
Only a select few TV's online list whether or not these sets play vcd's & svcd's but most of them don't list at all. They may list the media type supported(DVD-R,CD-R.etc.) but not specific formats. There has to be a site somewhere that list these things or at least allow questions about them. Please help me find such a site or point me to the right direction for help. Thanks guys!![]()

The players you are looking at should be listed here. Most new players no longer support VCD and/or SVCD.

Are you asking for an HDTV with a DVD player AND a VCR built into it? Good luck. Are there even such things available? You should be aware that if you find anything like this, it probably won't support "exotic" formats like VCD and SVCD. You really need a standalone DVD player if you want to find something that still supports these formats. You might be able to get a DVD/VHS combo player that does this. Philips, just as an example, still supports VCD and SVCD on all of their players as far as I know. Note that NONE of the currently available HD-DVD and BluRay players support VCD and SVCD, but they also don't come with VCRs built in.

You should realize that if you even can find such a thing as an HDTV/DVD player/VCR combo gizmo that all you have to do is have either the DVD player or the VCR wear out and you may be in for a world of hurt. How would you like to have a $500 repair bill just to fix the VCR part of this? DVD players in particular now rarely last more than 3 years. Are you prepared to have to buy a standalone player to replace the built in one when it dies? If yes, then why not just buy separate components now and be done with it. The more stuff you have combined together, the potential you have for a single point of failure. I can tell you that you are going to be VERY unhappy if the DVD player part of this takes down your whole TV when you could just buy a cheap standalone player for $50 and replace it cheaply if it fails.

What I was actually wanting was information on the built-in type DVD players that come with TV's. We bought a Magnavox HDTV with a built-in DIVX player since posting. I still haven't tested out the DIVX player but will very soon. I needed a site that has info on these built-in players because all I seen here at ViedoHelp was the standalone players. Thanks guys!
