  1. Hi everyone,
I am getting a Core 2 Quad Q6600. My new specs will be :

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
    Intel DP35DP
    XFX GeForce 7900GTX
    2GB RAM
Also have a dvd writer and a dvd rom in my casing. My question is that will my 450W ASUS PSU will be able to handle all the parts? or should i upgrade my PSU as well (I am not wiling to if it can provide enough juice to all components). The PSU is just 6-8 months old.

I think the power supply will be ok.

I would be more concerned about the heat.

I would hope that the case you are using has intake and exhaust fans.

Make sure that there are no obstructions around the video card and the heat sink for the processor.

From what I see in the manual:

    A. 2 System Requirements
    # Intel PIII / Celeron, AMD Duron or Athlon CPU or higher
    # 64 MB system memory at least
    # For 7800 GTX, at least 400W system power supply (with 12V current rating of 26A).
For two GeForce 7800 GTX-based graphics cards running in NVIDIA SLI
configurations, a minimum 500W system power supply (with 12V rating of 34A) is
    recommended.
    # For 7800 GT, at least 350W system power supply (with 12V current rating of 20A).
For two GeForce 7800 GT-based graphics cards running in NVIDIA SLI
configurations, a minimum 450W system power supply (with 12V rating of 26A) is
    recommended.
    # Windows 2000 / XP
    # A PCI Express compliant motherboard
    # A PCI Express supplementary power connector
    # CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
I'd say it's probably OK, as long as it's not SLI. Check your ASUS 12V current output ratings, though. And that GPU definitely will heat your room. Make sure you have good air cross flow in the case.

450w should be plenty, provided the rails can supply the current required.
As a sidenote, after buying a few 500w power supplies recently, it turns out that they are all pretty much on a par with each other, and some "Prestige" brands are exactly the same as cheapo generic brands, but with a new sticker stuck on. Try to find out who actually manufactures the Mighty Super Cool Silent power supply before forking out $100, only to find that it's exactly the same as the $50 generic one, made to the same spec. and by the same factory in China.

  5. Thanks for all the answers, i was curious about my PSU, heat is no problem, i have got Vento gamer casing with pretty good cooling system.
GPU is already in my system and i am running it for more then 4 months without any heat problem, i don't have any SLI setup either, so i think PSU will gonna be fine then.
Thanks again for all the valuable input
