hi,
I bought my sony DCR- SR190, 2 weeks ago.
Great camera, that was until i tried to import my clips from the HDD of the camera int Adobe Premiere CS3.
Premiere won't accept MPG clips, so I need to convert these to (AVI/something else it accepts)
I almost tried every program, but most of them are way to complicated for me, I need a program that can convert fast and easy.
I would also like to keep my AC3 sound 5.1 from the camera if that is a possibility.
Another problem is that my camera splits all the footage in clips and I don't want to import 150 clips one by one
Thanks in Advance,
Tim

You could try VirtualDub Mod and use the DV AVI codec to export the files to Premiere. DV uses about 13GB per hour, but it's fairly low compression to preserve quality and very easy to edit. I use the Panasonic DV Codec, but the Cedocida DV Codec is very popular and reportedly has a better output.
I haven't tried VDM with multiple MPEG clips, but it can automatically add in a series of clips by 'appending' them together, then you can output them all as one DV file. They need to be the same format and numbered consecutively.
Other possible AVI choices are HuffyUV, but the files will be much larger. Or RGB AVI, but the file sizes will be huge.
All these programs are freeware and VDM has plenty of guides available on it's tool page. You should be able to just pass the AC3 sound through untouched. You may need the AC3 ACM Decompressor if VDM balks with the 5.1 audio files.
Or alternatively, you could just use a MPEG editor and keep the files as is. MPEG-VCR or VideoReDo are inexpensive, or if you want more options, MPEG Video Wizard is popular.
You will also need a authoring program, unless Premiere does that. Then all you need to do is burn the file to a DVD format, if that's the final format. I would recommend ImgBurn for burning about any type of file. It's also freeware.
And welcome to our forums. -
Thank you so much!
I'll try this, first thing in the morning
EDIT: Just tried VDM and it works flawless, it even keeps my AC3 sound intact.
The only PROBLEM is that he will not let me import more then one clip at a time.
my clips are numbered like this : M2U00201, M2U00202, M2U00203
they're all in the same format.
In VDM i just click on file----open video file
Thanks in advance
