I've been downloading some high def launch videos from nasa website and watch them without problem on my desktop pc with qt alternative1.90. I recently bought my wife a laptop (LG E500, core 2 duo 2.2Ghz, 15.5" wxga 1280x800, nvidia geforce 8400m) after installing qt alternative I tried some of these nasa .mov's and keep getting the "media player classic has encountered a problem" error. The first one I tried was 1080i so I thought that maybe the laptop couldnt handle it so I tried a 720p but same result.

Anyone have idea? This new laptops specs are ok enough arent they?

    Thanks

What operating system? If windows vista it could be because of it.

Maybe try play with VideoLan or find an older version of quicktime alternative. Or it might just work without quicktime alternative if you rename to mp4 and use haali media splitter, ffdshow and media player classic.

    Hi Baldrick,

Its running XP SP2 just like my desktop, thats why I'm perplexed. Trying to understand what the difference could be. Does qt alternative use another codec I may have installed on the desktop but not the laptop?
Anyway i'll try those other methods you suggested.

    Thanks

Specs are irrelevant at this point. If the laptop isn't powerful enough, you will just get poor playback. It should still be working.

I would start with the basics and ensure your video drivers are up to date. Then reinstall MPC and quicktime alternative.
