I dunno what I'm doing wrong, but my DVD player is hooked up with the Component Cables right to the brand new 19" LCD TV, and at best it looks terrible- the RF'd CRT TV looked a billion times better. I've seen DVDs on my laptop & they didn't look nearly this bad..

Having the same symptoms with broadcast reception- visible pixels everywhere and frequent 'no signal' bluescreens and generally not seeing this as an improvment.

So, Radar- what am I doing wrong?

It's hard to give good advice without seeing the actual problem and you don't say what is wrong with the dvd picture. So...

Sounds like a bad TV. Broadcast TV issues aside, if it doesn't look good using a DVD source through component, then something is wrong. I would exchange it and/or get a different model.

  3. CRT generally looks better than LCD with SD material. But no-signal blue screens would indicate a problem with the connection. Have you tried other options? HDMI, s-video, composite?
