I am using a HI 8 movie camera, and have a winfast 2000 xp deluxe install in my computer (no 1394 output on camera- use S-video). One of the default setting in winfast is "uncompress avi" and the setting is 320 x 240 with a bitrate of 4570. Using movie studio + dvd. When I select capture it detects my capture card just find and automaticly uses the above avi settings. Is this really the correct resolution and bitrate settling. I have changed the configuration setting in winfast to 720 x 480 as the default but in movie studio it still sets the capture to 320 x240. On a note I have never had any dropped frames. Any suggestion? Thanks

320x240 is too small, at the very least you should be capturing at 352x480 for VHS.
I had one of those cards, can't you just use the WinPVR software for capture? You should have all kinds of selcetions. -
I'd use 720x480 for capture then test MPeg2 encoding at 720x480 and 352x480 after capture.
