Media Will Not Burn - Even Though Firmware Is up To Date

Hi.

I bought Emtec DVD+R 4,7GB 16X CB discs, and i cannot get this media to burn.

On the label instructions it states make sure you up date firmware, which i have.

I have tried many software burning tools, nothing worked.

The sound that comes from the drive is that to a motor bike being revved noise up and down when trying to burn

I have tried media in my LG super multi writer GSA-H1ON and Philips (PBDV1640B) DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner

I have to say this media works fine in my dvd recorder though!

Be greatful for any advice.

Emtec is mostly CRAP.
Buy Taiyo Yuden media or Verbatim(the ones made by Taiyo Yuden). Check SVP Disc Shop (google it) and you'll find both.

Media incompatibility issues like you are having are usually resolved by getting a different brand/type of media. While all burners should be able to burn all media, that just isn't the case and it's proven time and again. While Verbatim and TY are the most trusted (I only use TY -R and Verbatim +R DL), there are likely many other brands that will work in your burner. It's just a matter of trial and error to find a brand/type that performs to your satisfaction.

If you are making coasters, you're not saving any money by buying inexpensive media. And there is no guarantee that the burns that were successful will last without generating errors in the future. I would at least try a good brand of DVD media. It that solves your problem, good. If not you may have to dig a bit deeper to resolve it.

If your burner is having the problems you describe with the speed changing rapidly, that's hard on the burner and it may revert to PIO mode at some point. That will give you really slow burns and reads.
