So now that a vast majority of pc games have moved on to the more roomy dvd format when will we see multiple dvd games??

I wonder how long it will be before the games keep growing in size.

Are there already multiple dvd games out there? I don't know if there or not.....

perhaps DVD is too restrictive in size and they will move to another format?

    what other format???

Can you see people buying a bluray or hddvd rom drive just to play a video game??? I certianly wouldn't. Not until a winner is picked. THen I could see going for a high def rom format for games but until then I'm sticking with dvdrom.

Probably sooner than you think... Isn't this Micro$oft's business model: Pay per line of bloated code.

There are other high capacity formats that claim they will overthrow both BluRay and HD-DVD...

    Just playing devil's advocate.

I remember when people said that about games on dvd-5

format war or not... it will happen... and prob. in my lifetime still, move to an even larger format than hddvd/bluray 8)

Unless your willing to sit there and install a game from 6 dvd-roms :P

Blue Dragon for the XBOX360 is 3 DVDs Big. Oblivion Game of the Year Edition is 2 DVDs big.

Funny thing is that any other game DVD, when you try to eject the disk the XBOX reboots, with the Blue Dragon, it asks for another disk, you can eject it and the XBOX does not reboot.

  9. It seems to be a trend that game makers release a single disc and larger and larger patches/upgrades/addons that you either buy separately or that you download.
With faster and faster internet connections we might very well see more and more downloadable games and get rid of the whole medium altogether. I mean I seriously don't see the wirelessly connected me in 30 years running to the store to buy a medium of one kind or another. At least i seriously hope we've overcome the bandwidth issues with some technological advancements and better encoding/compressing of files by then.
(oh and many people do pirate stuff, like blu-rays and such, which means it is certainly possible already today to download a game of 15gb+)

The valve approach of selling games via Steam could very well be seen as a step (be it a shaky one).

The only time I see games push multiple discs is when they are stuffed full of video clips. The game itself takes up only a few GB at most.

    Really??? Wow that is suprising.

@lordsmurf - yeah I would expect video to be a main eater of disc space. Though if they would truly manage it to be one install disc and then other discs for playback of said video that wouldn't be so bad.

Ideally though if we'd get a winner in the high def battle than I wouldn't mind so much having to get a bluray or hddvd rom for games. That it'd be what almost 25gbs on a single layer? I just hate the thouhgt of them jumping to it now when neither side is a clear winner.
