  1. I have a DVD that has closed caption subtitles only and I wanted to rip the closed caption into a regular subtitle file. I used VSRip and got 5 files:
    1) s.cc.srt 105KB
    2) s.cc.utf16be.srt 210KB
    3) s.cc.utf16le.srt 210KB
    4) s.cc.utf8.srt 106KB
    5) s.cc.raw 1.3MB
The first file was just what I wanted. I was able to put that file in Time Adjuster and get the timing just right and use that file as my subtitle file. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th files could not be opened in Time Adjuster. I got the error message: "Quick scan detected that the file has "UNIX" style coded enters. It's a common error when you download txt files via FTP in binary mode. Before Time Adjuster can start using this file this error must be corrected. Can I fix it now? Y/N"
Pressing Yes did not solve the problem. I just got a blank file. I opened up all four files in Notepad and they looked absolutely identical from the beginning to the end of the subtitle file.
I also notice that the file size is different for each file that apparently looks identical in Notepad.
It seems like there is some hidden information that makes the file size different and also not work in Time Adjuster. However all four files did work as subtitle files when used with a software player.
My question is: Can someone explain the discrepancies in file sizes (when the files look identical in Notepad) and why three of the files don't work in Time Adjuster.
I also would like to know what is the 5th file (s.cc.raw) and what purpose could it serve.

Well, the .raw file is the only one with USER DATA (RE:Closed Captioning). Google "scctools" and "McPoodle" for tools to modify/adapt/convert closed captions. I believe the others are the same database using different formats.
