  1. What is the best tool for converting DV AVI (AVI PV) format to DVD (ideally with burn capability)?

I own ConvertXtoDVD, but I strongly suspect that I am not getting quality conversion results. It seems to be fine for quick & dirty conversions, but I have messed with all the settings and AVI DVs look kind of watery and not very close to the original quality (and I'm sure it's not just MPEG2 artifacts).

I own TMpgEnc DVD Author 1.6, and I know V3.0 allows AVI import, but I am pissed because they only give upgrades for V2.0 users... I'd have to register again from scratch and throw $90 down the drain again. I don't want to support them anymore.

    What are my options?

You won't find any DV -> DVD (all in one) tool that fulfils your demands (optimum quality).
Rather, look at mpg encoders (see tools left) CCE, Procoder, HCEnc (the latter free!). Learn how to use them, and tweak their settings to give you the best quality you can get. Continue to use TDA for what it's best at - Authoring.
