I've been burning some HD Xvid files to blank dvd-r using Nero w/ UDF file system to use in my/or others HTPC.Problem is that sometimes this works, sometimes the movies freeze. Is UDF the best way to burn these files to DVD-R or is there something better?I'm using MPC as my app for these HD XVID files.Or will they play better if I just keep the files on the pc & play from the HDD? Bear in mind,I'm NOT trying to convert these files into DVD files.I just want a reliable way to burn HD Xvid files onto DVD-r to be read as HD Divx files by a HTPCThanks

I guess it's a dvd media problem. Have you tried different dvd media?

Well I'm using Verbatim DVD-R's which have always served me great.Weird thing is that it only happens to some of my HD Divx or Xvid files.Hell, sometimes only 1 file on the disc will freeze and the other title burned at the same time, works fine.Guess I'll try re-burning.Is there any other way to burn other than a NERO UDF disc? Thanks

Maybe try a different burning software also like cdburnerxp, infrarecorder, imgburn. And try UDF/ISO mode.
Or maybe it's software player problem? But then it should freeze if you play from the hdd....hmm.... -
There is probably something different in your files that are freezing that is causing you problems. Verbatim DVD-R discs should be OK. There are many possibilities for problems here:
1) Do the files that freeze have very high video bit rates? Do they use DTS audio?
2) Does your HTPC use FAT32 as its file system? To use FAT32 would be a very bad idea.
3) Have you tried something other than MPC like VLC? Do they still freeze?
In the past I have burned HD Divx files to DVD using ISO (if the files are less than 2 GB in size) or UDF format (if greater than 2 GB in size) and everything seems OK. I use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden DVDs exclusively. -
Well,I tried burning the same HD Divx file again and it works great.I think burning HD Divx files is just a tricky thing for my PC.This time I made sure I did NOTHING else on my PC whilst it burned the file to DVD,and that seemed to work.Yeah, the "freeze files" froze in VLC as well.I'm gonna chalk it up to PC usage during burning, though I've never had that problem until I recently started burning HD Divx/Xvid files.Live and learn,Thanks for all the help!
