  1. A friend of mine has this interesting device, he says that it does work indeed as stated... I thought it sounds too good to be true but it is quite useful as a matter of fact.

The only problem is for those with DSL service... they should switch to cable.

Why pay $400 for the new Ooma device when you can get a MagicJack for just $40? For that $40 you get a U.S. phone number (you can’t select your area code, although you can change your number starting this Christmas). You also get a license to call any U.S. or Canadian phone number free for that first year (it’s a $20/annual fee after that). And you can use your MagicJack to call the U.S. and Canada for free when you’re traveling elsewhere in the world. Users in our forums are giving MagicJack an initial thumbs-up for easy set-up and low costs.
magicJack: Yet Another Way to Make Cheap Calls

    Magicjack

A company called magicJack will officially launch its gadget/phone service by the same name on April 7th. Basically, it's a little gizmo that attaches to your computer through a USB port and has a standard phone jack on the other. It will allow you to make an unlimited number of calls anywhere within the United States for a low yearly fee (rumored to be $39 for the first year including the gadget then $19 per year thereafter).

Telecom veteran and inventor of the magicJack Don Borislow claims the new service will lead to nothing less than the "Telecom Revolution Part II". Wow, that's more hype per square inch than Sony, Apple and Microsoft could put together in a press release.

Update: the MagicJack is now available for orders. Pricing is indeed $39.95 for the gadget itself and includes one year of calls in the US. Each subsequent year will cost $19.95.

I don't remember when was last time i called anyone long distance from my phone... everyone i know have PC, laptop or PocketPC at least, and we contact each other or talk basically on Messenger or Skype (which is big in EU unfortunately).

Anyone over 35 here who uses a *phone* for long distance at all? Come out from the closet!

So.. magic jack most likely will jack out itself out of business by next year if all they can offer is only US/CA
