Hello. I am thinking of purchasing this player from Circuit City (it's $279 online) but cannot find any information on whether it will play SVCD's. The reviews on here didn't mention anything about that so I'm hoping someone on here can verify for me. TIA!

Based on the player specs and user manual, these units play HD DVD, DVD, and CD audio. No support of VCD or SVCD.

As far as I have been able to determine, there currently aren't any BluRay or HD-DVD players that support VCD and SVCD.

Which makes sense, at least to me. You spend thousands of dollars to upgrade your home viewing experience to HD quality, and then you want to play a SVCD? Do you also want a built in VHS player? : ) jj

I have a few SVCD's myself. But just like when I finally sold off my VHS collection and made the switch to DVD, I had to spend a little time converting some of the collection over to DVD. Simply convert your SVCD's to DVD.
