There is no Laserdisc forum, the DVD player section is probably the closest to being on topic.

I have Pioneer CLD-M301 and last night it started doing banshee imitation. In other word, the player got very loud while playing LD.

Since it is a bad spindle, any of you know where I could get a suitable replacement part for under $30? Because over $30 gets me an used LD off eBay.

Or if you happen to have Pioneer CLD-M301 cheap or free and lives not too farm from me (Flint, Saginaw, Midland, Port Huron area) I could come and pick it up.

If you have a decent LD collection and are serious about home theater, Pioneer still sells a LD player. It's part of the Elite line I believe.

  3. Those spindle motors aren't very easy to get to on most players. Unless you've worked on electronics before you would probably be better off buying a player on Ebay.

Sadly, I'd have to agree -- it seems to be difficult at best to get replacement parts for most Laserdisc players these days. (And if it's a Sony, forget it; with rare exception, once a particular model of something is discontinued Sony keeps replacement bits around just long enough for all the warranties to expire.)

Not to mention that a lot of service techs don't even know what an LD player is these days. I had to take my Magnavox player to at least three different repair shops around here before I found one that agreed to even look at it...

You will need to exercise Google to find current Laserdisc refurb geeks. Pioneer authorized service sites may be able to give advice/quote. Be happy it isn't a Sony. They only provide flat fee service and no advice.

The good thing about upper range Pioneer is they were bought by gov't agencies that demand on-going support in the GSA contract.

  6. If I remember right, I haven't been inside an LD in awhile, Pioneer uses a Mabuchi spindle motor. If so, and they were ever used in anything else, they shouldn't be hard to find and would be cheaper from someplace other than Pioneer. That still leaves you having to replace the motor. On almost all LDs I've seen the spindle motor isn't easy to get to.

They did an excellent job o my very rare Pioneer LDS9. They even changed the stock Japanese 100 Volt Power supply and changed it to USA 120Volt.
