Hello,
I have a HD file 1080p with ts extension.
What I want to do is to embed subtitles into the .ts file, burn to DVD9 so I be able to play it on regular DVD player
wich support 1080p upscaling plus play it on a HTPC with HDMI output
Normaly, what I think I can do is convert the .ts to .mpg using HDTV2MPEG
and improting the new mpg into VirtualDubMod and adding subs.
Now the most confusing part is the Compression method, which one should I choose to keep the
original quality. What encoder is the best for High Definition, the DiVX1080p, h264 or x264
which one should I choose w/o losing quality and keeping the 6ch audio?
Is there any better way to add subtitles to HD ts file?
Please help,
Thank you

What is your player and what resolution can it play?
Most Divx/Xvid players are limited to SD resolution. -
My DVD player is APEX HDMI-850
it supports 480p / 480i / 576p / 576i / 720p / 1080i
I don't know about 1080p though. -
Are you sure that it supports 720p and 1080i source video? I would guess that it only can upconvert video to 720p/1080i.

DVD doesn't allow for H.264 or X.264 encoding. You must use standard MPEG-2. There are other ways to do this without having to use VirtualDubMod unless by saying "adding subs" you mean that you want to make the subtitles be part of the image (we call this "burned in subtitles") which cannot be turned off. The normal way to add subs is through some sort of DVD authoring program which muxes them and allows them to be turned on and off.
You are very confused my friend. You need to do a lot of research. You are confusing HD and DVD. After you convert your TS file to DVD format, you are working with DVD subtitles, not HD ones. And you also need to be aware that subtitles in TS streams are a format that is not compatible with what we use in the USA and call "closed captions". I'm not sure if there are any programs that can work with the subtitle format in TS streams.
Finally, either you want to play a DVD or you want to play the TS file on your DVD player. If you want to play a DVD, then convert your TS file to DVD format, author it and burn it. If you want to play your TS file as it is now, then your player will not support this. -
jman, I don't want to resize the file so it will be played on a DVD as said there are DVD's which supports HDMI output therefore I want to maintain the exact resolution of 1080p.
If that is not posibble then If I use a laptop with HDMI output (model: DELL XPS 1330) is it good as HTPC?
connecting both my LCD and the notebook through a HDMI cable to play the HD material.
Theoraticly it is possible, but I still want to add subtitles to the file, and my options are subtitles which can be turned on and off which sounds the easiest one and the other burning the subtitles into the movie which involves of reencode of the entire hd movie.
Any idea on how to make it? both to a .ts and .mkv -

The only players which play hi-def ARE the new format players. Apex is a low price brand, not a tech leader ergo simply, hi-def output supported via upscaling NOT hi-def input on std dvd
