I have a few .avi files that have subtitles. I'd like to edit the subtitles so that I can remove or change some words (they swear words that I'd rather not see). How would I go about doing this? I'm a complete newbie to this and don't even know where to begin. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer me.

Depends on the type of subtitles. There are basically two types, hard and soft. Hard subs are part of the video and cannot be altered. Soft subs are stored in a seperate file (example: movie.avi & movie.srt -the srt file being the subtitles). Of the soft sub types, there are txt subs and image subs. A text sub file, such as .srt files, can be opened with any text editing program (notepad for instance) and edited. I'm not sure if you can edit image subs.

Thanks for the reply. Man, that stinks. They must be hard subtitles, than, because all I have is the .avi file and nothing else. I guess I'm outta luck. Thanks for the info, though.
