I find it incredible that a popular app like IFOedit (v0.971) has no guide for creating IFO files. There were a couple of so-called guides I found some time ago, but either the folks who wrote them did not have an adequate command of English to communicate their knowledge, or the app actually can't create IFOs. I had posted this note at another site and was kindly directed to a bunch of IFOedit guides that dealt with everything BUT creating IFO files. I tried several ways to create IFOs that work, and below is an example. If anyone can point out where I'm going wrong in the steps below, I'd be mi------ghty grateful.
1. Launch IFO_Edit -> click on "Create IFOs" button.
2. Browse to first VOB of title-set: e.g., "VTS_01_0.VOB" -> Open.
3. Check Same as source box -> "OK" (I was able to speed up
process by dragging task window to bottom of the screen, so
that Windows is spared of repeatedly refreshing itself)
4. Highlight the "VTS_01_0.VOB" file.
5. Double-click the first audio stream file, “Audio 1: Not Specified…” -> specify
language as "English" -> "OK." Repeat this step for any remaining unspecified
Audio and SubPicture attributes.
6. Click on "Region free" -> "OK."
7. Highlight "VTS_01_0.IFO" -> "Get VTS Sectors" -> "Yes."
8. Click "OK" until all the files are processed.
9. Highlight "VTS_01_0.IFO" -> "Save" -> "Save" -> "Yes."
10. Highlight "VIDEO_TS.IFO" and repeat steps 5-8.
11. Highlight "VIDEO_TS.IFO" -> "Save" -> "Save" -> "Yes" -> "Quit."
12. Burn files to DVD media.
The project on which I am working is unprotected video (PAL), consisting of eight VOBs; and I can play each part of the project perfectly, using Nero ShowTime or WMP. Maybe IFO_edit can't accommodate the PAL format?

Really you two .
There are guides all over the place on how to use ifoEdit for this function , and to generate new ifo's for vobs . Many posts by myself , guns1inger , and many others report on how to do such things with ifoEdit , and much more .
Do your research , and know how to use the seach feature in the forum , as thats what it is supposed to be used for . Its not just a pretty button , or there for no reason .
The real issue with ifoEdit is it dosent support menus that may be included , which means you go another route . This is done using pgcedit to reconnect the menu via import feature , and you then recorrect the navigational commands . But ifoEdit dose just about everything else .
If you want to see how its done using pgcedit , look for guides writen by myself in the guides section in the forum . Once you get started , its real easy .
Ps : Its name is spelt as IfoEdit.exe , and as far as I am aware , ifoEdit has no issues with either pal or nstc , this was corrected .
Never had any issues with either format .
The problem basically comes from mpeg2 files produced from poor quality encoders .
Bbmpeg is one of the best encoders , and free , that ifoEdit never chokes on . -
the mpegs came from cce, the dvd folder was authored by GFD, by a freak of timing ( my 6 min chapters ), there was an error in the creation of the IFO's
all the vobs were good, pgc edit wanted to create new blank IFO's but it refused to process the vobs and fill them in with useable data,
ifo edit found nothing to read
maybe these prog aren't full proof or maybe they require an understanding beyond my level.
the guides, did not help, i dl them read, they did not help me. -
bjs,
Thanks for the scolding. Whew! You evidently are very knowledgeable on the subject but not attentive to detail: please note in my post that I did perform an extensive (Google) search and that the guides fail in my case--that's why I posted the message. By the way, the search button isn't all that pretty.
I think you hit the nail on the head when you stated that "IfoEdit" doesn't support menus. Since Ifoedit does not come with a manual, these forums serve a valuable purpose...you know, folks helping each other...without scolding.
I apologize to you if my response is a bit defensive, but getting scolded for seeking help is no fun. I suppose I could have spent more hours researching the matter, but then that activity would negate the need for a forum.
I am grateful that you were kind enough to point me in the right direction. Thanks.Djard

Djard , no problem , it was too strong ... Its more they get buried deeper every day , and harder to locate with all the other crap out there online ... google or yahoo search engines ... they can return some funny results at times that have nothing to do with the original question .
Theewizard ... if ifoedit wont generate new ifo's from those vobs , then the vobs are at fault , not ifoedit .
I never liked cce results , and ifoedit dosent take kindly to it either , which is why I recommend demuxing the title , and give ifoedit a chance to do the basic muxing ... if it chokes during the process , its a fault usually with the mpeg stream made by cce .
You can create a simple avisynth script to concat the streams in order , then use bbmpeg to re-encode the video stream which ifoedit will accept without complaint ... why not , bbmpeg is free , and cce is not .
As for some of my guides ... well some are for later consideration , but when you get the basics down correctly , thats when they'll come in hand . -
