I just bought a 32" sharp aquos LC-C3742U LCD television. I have an ATI x850 pro AGP graphics card and have been trying to get a 1080i resolution (1920x1080). I have a dvi to hdmi cable hooked up and the best picture I seem to be able to recieve is 1360x768. Everytime I force a 1920x1080 picture the screen flickers and is overscanning. I can fix the overscan but I have no idea how to get rid of the flickering of the picture. I have ATI's catalyst control center and it recognizes my TV and says that my TV should be able to withstand a max 1920x1080 resolution and a max frequency of 75 Hz. I have tried running the picture at 30, 60, and 25 Hz and all these frequencys still flicker. I also tried downloading the newest drivers and some older drivers for my video card but nothing seems to help. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!

1080i is interlaced. its actually only showing 540 lines at a one time. 1080P is what youre thinking about p for progressive. that shows 1080 lines all at once basically. dont want to get into IvsP lesson. so a tv as you have that is 1360x768 will only be able to display a signal from your card at that resolution unless your card has in its settings a theater mode with force 1080i as an option. which i doubt. anyway the 768 will look better less flicker etc seeing that its coming from a video card.

All HDTV sets will accept 1080i and some 1080p over DVI/HDMI/analog component. The TV will then process to native resolution which is in your case 1366x768 progressive. You can get to 1366x768 from 1080i, 720p, 480p or 480i. The TV processor makes the conversion.

For 1366x768p from a computer you can connect 1280x720p over HDMI or 1360 or 1366x768 over VGA. 1080i needs interlace at the computer and then deinterlace at the TV so your display card and TV better be pretty good at processing that path. Try them all but my vote goes to 1366x768p over VGA.

you actually didnt say that your card had theater mode with force 1080i you said` that your card says it will output 1080 those tow are not the same.. but if you are gonna force output to a tv one thing you need to do for sure is make sure that the freq is 60hz not 75 or any other freq. thats the us standard.

to be honest your not really gonna be happy with any picture that you "force" your tv has a native resolution and thats there to tell you what your tv can do. if you want a better picture you need a better tv. thats why they sell better tvs for more money. if you would have got a full HD tv you would have paid a lot more for it.

i looked your tv up and its says its a 37" not 32" im guessing your post was just a typo. but i found it for around 800usd i dont know what you paid. but to get a 37" 1080p tv your gonna pay 1500 min usd more like 1800. i acutally looked for your tv in a 1080p flavor and it was listed for 1899 sale 1499 so you see you pay a bit more for better resolution.
