I've managed to convert a WMV to MPG using TMPEG and it all works perfectly on my PC, but when I try to play the file on my DVD player which is capable of playing DIVX MPG or AVI files then I only hear the music involved, no sound effects and no speech. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks!

I have just come back from my brother's place because he installed a new DVD player and when he put in a divx disc, all was well, when he put in a DVD with 5.1 audio, he didn't get any dialogue. Turns out the default downmix settings were to channel the left and right out to the stereo outputs for a stereo amp, and assumed that he would have the centre channel plugged into his TV. Changing the downmix settings to stereo instead gave him everything back. Very stupid defaults, IMO. Not likely your problem, but an odd coincidence.

Without knowing what the WMV contained, and what settings you used in tmpg (or which version of tmpg) it is difficult to give you anything specific.

If you play the mpg file back on your PC, do you get all the audio, or just the music ?

Can you post g-spot screenshots of both files ?

Yeah, my (I think Supersonic is the brand hehe) DVD player also has such daft default settings and I went through that when I first tested it.

I'm posting from the office so no g-spot screenshot from here, I'll send one when I'm home.

The WMV contained a 24 minute TV show that people can download legally from a local TV station overseas - when I watch it with earphones I've noticed the audio moves from the entire right side to the left and then finally the center... I think they may have mixed the sound a bit strangely over there.

I think it's TMPG version 2.5, but I'm not sure - I just used CBR with MPGII layer audio... nothing fancier than that. I'm thinking about testing the PCM option this evening.

But anyway - thanks for the reply and I'll get back to you guys with more details.
