  1. What;s all the instructions here about burning SVCD with Nero? the plugin won't even be released until August according to email I received from Nero. What are we burning then?

NTI says SVCD plugin should be in the next upgrade in about 2 to 4 weeks.

Don't know about the others. I'm waiting for replies to their email.

I hope the SVCD is only DVD quality on a CD and not something special. I'm tired of all the noise and pixelization I'm getting on my VCD's. I think it's in the rendering. I just got Premiere and will try rendering to VCD from that.

I'm not sure if you understand thoroughly what these plug-ins actually will do. Until now the guides on this website have taken an avi, mpeg or whatever file and encoded them into an mpeg2 format (for SVCD) via TMPGEnc. This output file is ready for burning in Nero without any further conversion. The plugin (when it is released) will eliminate the usage of TMPGEnc, but no one knows yet what the quality will be like and if the plug-in will allow any changes of settings like TMPGEnc.

As for you quest for DVD quality on a CD. Only a mini-DVD would give you DVD quality on a CD-R(W). XSVCD would be the nearest thing after that and then SVCD's.

  3. Thanks. I really didn't know but I'm learning Now on to experiment with the settings in TMPGEnc. Have any suggestions?

The SVCD burning is not on Nero's demo, so I'd have to purchase a copy. Hope it works with my NTI still on the computer.

SVCD is clearly built into the demo Nero. It's called SuperVideoCD (dont use the wizard in versions older than 5.5.x.x).

As far as SVCD burning, why does the PowerDVD player recognize anamorphic widescreen SVCD, while WinDVD does not ... its making me sad.

To get DVD quality on XSVCD, just rip the vobs, demux out the video into a m2v file, and multiplex a compressed MPEG audio stream. Burn to nonstandard SVCD in Nero.

You may experience some audio sync problems, but most times things work fine. Note you will most likely only get it to play on a computer, but the playback time is slightly ... slightly, slightly, slightly .... longer than miniDVD at full-rez DVD.

  5. My title sequence looks fine but when the film starts and there's motion, ( film from the front of a moving train), then you can se the pixels and sometimes it's really "washy", not clear.

As far as ripping, I got some studying to do. vobs? demus? new to me!

When I clicked SVCd on my Nero demo, it said I don't have that capability and have to purchase the license.

    Thanks

  6. Well, I finally burned an SVCD that had a sharp picture. But both the picture and sound was jumping. I read somewhere how to fix that but forgot where I read it.

First I got an error message from Nero that the files was not SVCD compliant. I clicked the burn anyway button.

Like I said, first time I didn't see any pixels!
