Ok i've been using a Casio CW-50 title printer to print text onto my discs for the longest time. Until now it had always worked fine because my CD-Rs and TY DVDs all had the shiny smooth surface, which i recently learned is called something like "Silver thermal lacquer" finish on discs.
I bought a 50-pack of TY media not too long ago, it had the plain silver label side like my other TYs, but unlike them it was a tad rough and not smooth like my previous discs. I wasted a whole ink ribbon trying to print on these damn things and it barely did anything.
Thinking my CW-50 printer was toast, i was so close to chucking it in the trash till i finally realized the connection about the surface differences. Gahh!
I ordered some smooth surface TYs and the casio prints on them perfectly now. So yeah, be careful what specific type of your favorite brand media you choose...
