    Hi

I am converting all hubbys and grandkids old vhs videos to DVD. I have just one so far that plays fine on the TV but I lose the picture when I play it through Winfast. I've tried more than one VHS player so it's clearly software related.

Would this be to do with codecs? Where do I start to unravel this? It would have to be my 5 year old grandaughters favorite kmovie

Is it a pre-recorded commercial tape, if so most commercial VHS tapes have macrovision protection and most capture cards will not capture them without first removing it.

I don't think it's a capturing problem, more a playing problem. If I could play it but not record it, that would make sense but even the protected videos should at least play?

I'm not familiar with your hardware, but the ATI Wonder Elite, when used with either Power Cinema 2 or 3, will play a MV invested tape thru the RF input, but not thru the composite inputs. To access the composite inputs I must first open the video tab then the capture tab. The RF input is accessed by opening the TV tab or box. It will NOT RECORD thru either.

You may have the same situation.

Depends on how the device reacts to copyrighted video as they are each different and I'm not familiar with that device, if my memory serves me right on a Nvidia VIVO card I had the tapes would play fine but the capture would have a white band on them.

Let me ask you this have you tried multiple copyrighted tapes? Are the ones that worked non copyrighted material?
