Hi, I'm thinking of buying this lcd tv up North (I live in Dublin):

    http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/store/dix_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1913106406.1179313...m=null&tm=null

Its 968 sterling (Roughly €1450). I rang Dixons in Dublin - the price they gave me is €1799 and they don't have it in stock in Dublin at all.

What are the implications on warranty? Can I bring it back to a Dixons shop in Dublin or does it have to be returned to the shop it was bought in?

Has anyone bought an LCD TV in the North and had problems with the Digital tuner in the South?

    Thanks for any help.

Just Googled that particular TV and it looks like Dixons are as cheap as anyone. In the UK Dixons no longer exist, it is now Dixons online and the shops have all been relabled as Currys (but as Dixons, Currys and PCWord are all the same group, it doesn't really matter).

You shouldn't have any problems with the tuner as Ireland has adopted the same DVB-T standard as NI and the rest of the UK. As for warranty, I can't help. If bought in NI, UK law applies so the onus is on the retailer to repair or replace if it fails. You also have the manufacturers warranty which the retailer would claim the cost of any repairs or replacement. Whether the law in Ireland is the same and if you would need to return it to the supplying dealer, I don't know. Do Toshiba do a European Warranty like Sony do?

Many thanks for the info Richard.

Not too sure it Toshiba do Euro Warranty - but the North is really only 2.5 hours away from me so not too far to travel if need be.

    Thanks again

  4. Surely they'll charge you tax at the border for importing a TV?
Maybe if you hide it in the boot?? but then dont they search a lot of cars?? import tax , maybe 17.5%?
Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.
The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.

They'll probably refund him some! I bet we get screwed for more tax in UK than in Ireland, we do compared with just about every other country.......
