    Hi,

I'm in the market for a DVD Player that plays just about every conceivable format that is known to man, this would include .AVI files if possible. Any suggestion's on what is the VERY BEST DVD out on the market today?

  3. My vote goes to an Oppo 970 but the Toshiba SD-5000 has some good reviews.

All of the "formats" that you are wanting to play, were all created for the pc. So the best player will be a pc. Since you are apparently wanting to view on a TV, then the best choice would be a HTPC as noted above. A 2nd option would be a modded xbox, which could then play "most" formats.

From the home theatre perspective, your best bet would be a dvd player that supports Divx. This then gives you mpg and divx(avi) support, which accounts for most of the higher quality video available anyway.
