Hi all, newbie here. It's a too long and tedious story to tell, but I now have 4 (!) Panasonic AG-7750's (net cost: $0). I have tested them as far as my knowledge goes, and at least two of them work properly; no obvious problems with transport, TBC or remote. My idea was to use one of them for recording old VHS onto my Pioneer harddrive-dvd. The tests I've done so far seems promising; fine-tuning the TBC really kicks the old tapes to another level. And it's about there my aim for restoring tapes will stay, as long as I can get it better then it was I'm happy.

So far so good, but... Is it still possible to get service and parts for such old pro-gear? Would it be worth it? How much would an overhaul of one of the fairly working machines set you back, in the worst possible scenario? The machine I'm thinking of does produce some static by itself if connected to a monitor. I guess some of the stuff inside it went out of spec or so. Enlighten me you pros out there!

Make friends with a TV station tech

A big limitation for your application is these usually only run at SP speed and are optimized for SVHS tape.

Just checked how much the adapters I'll need for it will cost... 2 XLR to Phono adapters will set me back some $80 here (Sweden) . Moving to another country would still be more expensive though.
