Does anyone know what the "186" at the end of the model number means, if anything?

Would this be a good writer to use for ripping, or can I ask this question?

    Thank you.

Yes the LITEON 20x or even the 18x drives are good for reading/ripping discs. I believe the 186 at the end of the model means it's a "RETAIL DRIVE" which means it comes with software and a replaceable face plate. Googling the model number will show which online retailers sell that particular model like WALMART.

Here's a LIGHTSCRIBE version of the same drive at NEWEGG for $32.99.

    Good Morning budz,

What a coincidence. It was a reply by you on March 11, to another question that prompted me to look for a LITEON drive as a ripper. I just bought a Pioneer 112D for burning and was looking for a replacement for my Pioneer 120S for ripping.

Heading to a 24-hour Walmart this morning to see if they stock it. If not I'll do the online order.

    Thanks a bunch.
