  4. actually, '.avi' is now being used as a generic term for just about all '.divx' movies which are hacked codecs of the microcrap mpeg layer 4 codec...and to make it more confusing, it seems the divx community has spilt into 2 different camps....so divx 3.11alpha and up are by the projectmayo guys and divx 4.xx and up are by www.divx.com ....or something like that. In most cases I've come across the divx 4.xx is NOT downward compatible with divx 3.xx alpha stuff, so if you install the divx 4.xx codec and it ask you if you want to use it to play divx 3.xx stuff --- JUST SAY NO!! hee hee
