Using iMovie HD after I captured in DV format from panasonic gs320 my video shot in 16:9, I succeeded in exporting (sharing) it with this result : (from the information on VLC)

    stream 0:
    Codec................mp4a
    Language ..........english
    Type..................Audio
    Channels............2
    Sample Rate.......44100 Hz
    Bits per sample...16
    Bitrate................1411 kb/s

    stream 1:
    Codec.................avc1
    Language............English
    Type...................Video
    Resolution...........480x360
    Frame Rate.........25.000000

After this first video I was NEVER able again to find the right settings for this result.

Does anybody know what are the right settings in iMovie?

Expecially the avc1 codec is the most difficult to retrieve.

    Thank you.

Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated!

Why do you want that? The 480x360 resolution is a 4:3 format rather than 16:9. How do you plan to use the exported movie? Maybe we can recommend a different export setting.

Frobozz, thank you for answering me so quickly!

The mp4 file looks not distorted and in a 16:9 format! (or letterbox?) even with the 480x360 resolution.
Could it have been a glitch? That would be ironic.

I like it because it has a very nice quality (no blocky look,no little stripes, it is almost like the original DV but lighter ) , is in 16:9 , is kinda light ( 6MB for 1 minute 02 sec )

I need these setting because they give me all this quality in a format I can upload on, for example, youtube, and also I can open it with VLC and not just with quicktime for my PC users friends.
Also the time of exporting (sharing) was relatively short.

All the other formats using iMovie ( mov, avi, mpeg with different codecs, iSight,etc...) don`t give me the same video quality and in some cases they take ages to be exported.

In any case, I`m open to your suggestions for a good quality video settings.

    Thank you so much!

MPEG-4 AVC = MPEG-4 part 10 = H.264. Different names for the same thing. AVC is short for Advanced Video Codec. Usually found with the ".mp4" suffix, although QuickTime sometimes uses ".m4v".

    Thank you Case.

So the trick is to export as H.264.

It is true that QT sometimes uses .m4v , that`s the codec that I kept getting , unwanted because it doesn`t give me the same quality of avc1 , but it seems is the favorite of QT.

I`m gonna play some more with iMovie settings to try to obtain the H.254 codec now.

    Thank you again.
