Just tried my first pack of new Taiyo Yuden "Water Shield" printable DVD-Rs:

They're not cheap, but if you enjoy printing your own DVD labels, these give the best picture quailty that I have ever seen. The printable surface is smooth and glossy; it gives your label image brightness and "snap" that a matte label cannot match. I haven't tested my samples for water resistance; the image quality is what I'm after.
