I have a DVD (not a commercial DVD) that has sound in the left channel with only silence in the right channel. And the sound is poor and needs remixing. How do I put the sound in both left and right channels of the DVD. How can I remix the sound?

I have converted mono to stereo & remixed many CDs using NERO's wave editor. It works very well. But how do I do this with a DVD?

    Thank you.

Look at the DVD backup guides listed in the "How to" section on the left of the screen. Lots of free tools to do this.

If it doesn't have any menus, you just need to extract the video as MPEG, demultiplex it to separate audio and video. Then you can use audio tools as you seem familiar with, then reauthor with the new soundtrack and original video.

If you want to preserve other features, like menus, it's a bit more complex.

Read through the appropriate guides and ask more questions then.

Explain how you think the left channel data somehow includes the right channel?

Don't you have the original tracks? You can always copy a left channel to right or visa versa but that doesn't get you stereo. The old "stereo reprocessing" techniques separated channels by frequency.

Thank you for your kind replies.

AlanHK, can you be more specific since I have never authored a DVD. EdDV, to answer your question, the movie is from 1928 so there is only one channel of sound - the left channel. I don't have the original tracks.

GOAL: I want to take the mono track and put it on both left and right channels. I will be happy with that. (I would like to take the left and right tracks and remix them. But if the task is too complex then I wont do this remixing.)

QUESTIONS: I am confused. Specifically, what tool (software program) should I start with? What would be my goal?

COMMENT: AlanHK, it has a rough menu but I don't necessarily need that. If it is easy to do I will do a menu.

  5. 1.Use DVDDecrypter in IFO mode->Stream Processing to demux(make sure you set file splitting to "none").
    2.Use AC3Tool to convert AC3 to WAV.
3.Read this thread how to make stereo using Audacity:

    4.Use TDA,DVDLab,etc to author.
An easier solution is to use a "Y" cable and run it from the left channel of the DVD player to your tv/receiver:
