Hi! Hope someone can offer some help. I've got a Philips 3042 region 2 DVD player hooked up to my Philps TV. 220/110 power is OK. Cables are OK. I turn the player on and turn the channel of my TV to "Video". Then I try to use the DVD remote to get to a "preferences" menu to change the region codes, but nothing is coming up on my TV screen. I've tried this with a region 1 disc inserted in the player and without. A "ROOT" message appears on the player.
Any suggestions? I seem to be stuck.
Thanks!

Is there a legitimate "region hack" for your player posted somewhere on this site or another that you are trying to follow?

It could be that your DVD player is outputting Progressive and your TV is old enough that can't handle Progressive. Sometimes there is a button on the DVD player that enables Progressive mode. Otherwise it's under one of the preference settings. You might have to hook up your DVD player to a TV that can display Progressive and then enter the DVD player's menu and switch it to Interlaced output. Then go back to the Phillips TV.
