I let my Hauppauge Card go for about 3 and half hours to record a movie. Now when I take this file and bring it into an editor to remove commercials the file at the beginnng before removing anything is saying that the file is only (01:59:33:20) or just under 2 hours. This has happened been happening once and awhile. It has me curious.
I usually put the playback on pause when it is recording, because it uses alot less computer resources that way. I authorize DVDs and burn DVD or surf the net while it is recording and I trust that is getting everything I want it to.
The file is an Mpeg2 file that is recorded at 720x480, 6000-8000vbr and the audio is 48khz and 256kbs. The size of the file is 10.16gb. I have the beginning of the movie and the end of the movie. I think an hour of footage on a Hauppauge Card at these settings is usually 3 gb per hour.
I am curious if anyone has a clue what is causing this to occur. My Hard Drive probably needs defragged, and is 90 percent filled up. I was authorizing and burning DVD projects to free up more room. If there is only 2 hours available in the file, then where is the other 3 or 4 gbs worth of footage gone?
The computer technician that built my my Dual Core System, is trying to track down 2 more hard drives for me. Right now I only have one hard drive and it is divided into three partitions. This drive is only 250gbs and that isn't a whole lot when it comes to capturing video. The technician is in the process of finding two hard drives that are 500gbs each in size. One will be for recording onto, and one will be for storage and a target drive for my edited stuff to go to. Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me on this topic.

SHS: I am using Womble Mpeg Video Editor. I also open the file in VLC and WMP and it reveals the file is only two hours in length. I started taping at 12pm and shut the WinTV off of record at about 3:20pm. I was doing alot of different things using the computer while it was on record. The Hard Drive was nearly full and in need of a defragging. I am pleased with the clarity of the recordings I get with the Hauppauge Card. Thank you in advance for any information you can give me on this topic.
