Is there a way of editing various video clips that piece together into a shape, say a sphere? Any help would be appreciated.

  2. Editing various clips into a sphere, as in cutting? Not that I know of, though I may be misunderstanding your intent.

Various progs such as Ulead MSP will take video and format it onto a cube or sphere or whatever, the "editing of various clips" should be done first.

If you are talking about creating something like a pie chart of images then you need to look at masking and motion. something like Adobe After effects or AutoDesk Combustion can do this type of thing pretty easily. NLEs like Vegas and Premiere can also do it, but it will probably take a little more work.

  4. You can do this in After Effects, or any one of the higher end motion graphics packages.

Though they are presets in After Effects to quickly create footage of spheres, boxes, etc, definitely knowing the software first is a must.

Many ways to "kill that cat".

If you want to get fancy, create a 3D object in Maya, then map 2D video over the surface, then render out to 2D video.
