  2. There will be a way. Each model has its own unique procedure to make itself region free. You need to find its unique unlock code. Try the manufacturer or there are people who sell unlock codes on sites like ebay, but make sure they have your model listed.

This is 100% wrong. Posts like this do a great disservice to the members here because it gives them false hope. Every player CANNOT be unlocked with a simple procedure as you claim. We see posts here ALL THE FREAKIN' TIME (it's really getting old too) from people who whine and cry about "I bought DVD player X and I can't find anything anywhere to unlock it" and there is no way to unlock it. Please stop saying things like this because it's not true. Some players can only be unlocked with expensive hardware modifications.

I stand corrected and apologise for the misleading answer. I was honestly of the belief that each could be unlocked. I humbly eat crow..................................

It's OK. You probably are just passing on what you read or heard somewhere, but unfortunately it's not true. In North America, DVD players are sold that can't convert PAL video to NTSC, so these players don't have region unlock codes. Not all players are like this here, perhaps most aren't, but such players do exist here. There are plenty of players that can't be unlocked at all except via expensive hardware modification. Honestly, it would cost less to just buy a known multiregion player.

People are starting to get this crazy idea that every single DVD player on the planet has some secret code that can be entered by remote control to "hack" it into multiregion mode and as I said, it's not true. In fact, there's yet another post here on the forums where some guy is asking about 2 players I've never even heard of before. People should do their research first before they buy rather than just assume all players can be unlocked because they can't.

You mean all or some? Are you saying that if I make a DVD region free for a friend in North America, they still won't be able to play it unless I specificaly re-encode it for NTSC?
