Recently to backup DVDR recorded from satellite receiver I made DVD image using Nero Image Recorder and then select "Burn Image" which burned fine to Verbatim 8x -R, but error was given that there's not enough space when same backup was tried with both Ridata +R 8x and Playo +R 16x. I tried again with both DVDDecrypter and IMGBurn with identical results. Finally I succeeded using RipIt4Me but only after running the "Cleanup VOB files" option. This was tried with 2 different satellite receiver recordings with same results, and DVDShrink showed 1 recording reduced by 0.4 GB from ISO size while the other showed 1.6 GB reduction from ISO size even though no shrinking appeared during the process as DVDShrink showed 100% for both recordings. This seems to indicate at least these -R have greater capacity than these +R, and I wondered whether that's the case for all -R versus +R capacity.

I don't know the exact amount, it's not much, but DVD-R discs hold more data than DVD+R discs.

Its only a few kb or mb, certainly not worth bothering about most of the time. Some people say you should always burn less than the capacity of any disc, to lessen disc rot symptoms

Nero and IMGBurn gave message that there were 4.488 GB to write for the ISO file but only 4.482 GB available space on +R discs. That's only a few KB but enough to make the ISO unwritable to +R discs. You'd think Nero, DVDDecrypter, etc. would create ISO file that would fit on either format especially considering RipIt4Me substantially reduced space for files without any shrinking.

During ripping with RipIt4Me at the DVDShrink step it was set to auto and showed 4.096 GB for 1 disk and 2.768 GB for the other. Thus it seems not an issue of too much space for files, but rather Nero, DVDDecrypter, etc. creating too large ISO for the video files.
