    hello

    is there a both blue ray and hd-dvd burner?

    any for desktop and any for laptop?

    Not yet. I wouldn't expect to see any dual format burners this year for a variety of reasons. If anybody releases one, expect to pay a lot of money, like maybe over $1000 US for one.

    there are laptops that offer either HD-DVD or BLUE-RAY burner

    What do you want to use it for - data or Video ?

    If it is for video, personally I think it is a waste of time as there is still no clear winner and no clear path to take.

    If you have to ask this kind of question, you don't need the burner. You won't have the video quality worthy of HD discs, and you can make due with DVD, tape or HDD tech for data backups.

    Either one is a bad, bad choice for data backup. It's way too early to use these for data backup - especially data that you expect to reliably read later! A video player can "forgive" / skip bad spots. If you have a bad spot in the middle of a data file, you're SOL.
