Hi, I'vw just bought this HDD/DVD from Amazon, but for the 2nd time it has locked up with just "hello" showing on the screen. Does anyone know how to overcome this? I have done the usual - power on/off, holding eject when pressing on button but no use.

  2. I would call liteon and get a RMA (they'll run you thru the whole note book of unplug for three hours, etc etc).

Mine got haunted, turned on by itself, stopped recording by itself, opened the tray by itself, when into timeshift by itself so I rma'd it and returned it myself. Waiting now for updates on the RMA (liteon is slow on updating the status online for the RMAs).

Whatever you do, don't break the warranty seal!

    Cheers John!
I'll wait for them to get back to me and will post what they say.

  4. Usually the Liteon will lock up on HELLO and the unit will not work at all. if the DVD drive is not being recognized
It will operate without a HDD but could take some 2-min to do so
Let it go for a while to se if the DVD drive or HDD is at fault
If this is a new unit I would return it for another.
This is most likely a UK unit. If so was it purchased at Amazon UK. Is this a problem?
If so and the DVD drive [or HDD] is at fault it my be an intermittent or faulty IDE connection

    Hi
Thanks for the info. It is a UK unit and I'll give Lite On a chance to sort it out but will probably have to send it back to Amazon UK. Thanks for the help

  6. Would like to know
Did Amazon Uk ship the unit to a US address?

By information on other posts, Liteon has been un-supportive to standalones in the US market

  8. Thanks
That would explain the UK situation
I think that going through Liteon is Fine, but I would also let Amazon know of the problem and the steps you are taking
    Good Luck

    PS
I have a US Lite0n 5045, while not the same unit. They would be similar in operation
